Hello. I am a San Diegan who is looking to move up to Santa Rosa to attend school. I was wondering if any of you could guide me with what you would consider to be a safer area in Santa Rosa. Then I can start from there with looking for a place to stay. Any other tips on your area would be extremely helpful too. Thanks a bunch!

Repost from Craigslist.
We are leaving on Friday to help those in need in the LA fires. We plan on going to areas where many people's homes were burned. We will be taking clean clothing such as t-shirts and socks to the firemen on duty and clean freshly washed or new clothing to those who are displaced. Basic items such as toothbrushes, canned goods, socks, and other types of clothing are GREATLY NEEDED. Blankets especially. We need these items brough to LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR in Graton on Wednesday October 24th between noon and 6 PM. Please mark these items seperately from those donations that we normally receive for our programs that meet local basic human needs. Thank you Sonoma County! Your donations could be the exact item that individuals receive that makes them feel loved! Please help us to help others. We are collecting these items as a combined effort with R.A.V.E.N.Westcoast. (www.ugo4god.com). IF you live in Santa Rosa we will be accepting these items also in Santa Rosa from 7PM until 9 PM at our new second location at: 2150 Bluebell in Santa Rosa (Off Piner and Coffey). Call 543-6466 for more information.Cash for helping to carry out this mission is greatly needed. Those who are going are stepping out in faith....

We’ve been waiting for you!
Pony Club is one of the leading junior equestrian organizations in the world, represented throughout 30 countries! The United States has over 600 individual Clubs spread throughout 48 states and the Virgin Islands, with more than 12,000 members.

During "unmounted" meetings members learn about feeding, shoeing, veterinary care, and other areas of horse management. Under adult supervision, the more experienced Pony Club members instruct and assist younger members.

Hello, fellow santa rosians,
I'm getting married in July and am currenty trying to research hotels to recommend for out-of-town guests. I've only lived here for 2 years and I've never stayed in a hotel here myself.
Here's what I'm looking for --
The wedding is going to take place on Schoolhouse beach in Bodega. Obviously, the closet hotel is The Inn at the Tides. As it is fairly pricey, I wanted to offer alternate hotels in a lower price bracket. HOWEVER, as these people will not know the area as well, I'd like for any other hotel they stay in to be not far off of either Highway 12 or 101, so that the directions from their hotel to Bodega Bay are as simple as possible.
I'd love some suggestions.

This bridal fair is coming up in 2 weeks!
It's in Santa Rosa, at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts on Jan 28th. It's supposed to be HUGE, with a ton of vendors and booths to help everyone planning their wedding figure out what they need and where to get it. Personally, I need to price the tent rental companies and also look into renting a dance floor. I'm not going to mind sampling the cakes from different bakeries, either!
I highly recommend anyone in this area check it out. I'm bringing 4 of my bridesmaids and also the girl who is marrying us. It's going to be a blast. More details are at: http://winecountrybride.com/
. I'm already preregistered. :)

Happy New Year!
THIS IS THE BIG ONE, ITS A BENEFIT FOR PETER YOUNG! Theres going to be a $5-10 (sliding scale, please give as much as you can!) donation enforced at the door.
Go to www.supportpeter.com if you havent heard of him! Peter was recently captured by the state after nearly eight years in hiding. He and his accomplice, Justin Samuels, were charged with liberating minks at several fur farms across the Midwest in 1997. Justin Samuels was captured in 2000 and snitched out Peter. Peter was captured earlier this year and was facing 87 years on Animal Enterprise Terrorism charges, yet he did not testify against anyone and received the same deal as Justin, approximately two years. On top of paying his legal team, the $300,000 punitive damages awarded by the court and various court fees, the only way for Peter to receive vegan food in prison is through commissary. Needless to say, this is going to be expensive, but remember, HES IN THERE FOR THE ANIMALS, WE ARE OUT HERE FOR HIM.
Plus, theres a buncha rad bands on tour!
- Lovesongs (Illustrious lads from Livermore)
- Acts Of Sedition (Mustachiod men from Oakland. We forgive them for looking creepy.)
- Modern Problems (Rumor has it, they fuckin rule.)
- Bafabegiya (Angry duders from Reno. Id be mad if I lived there, too.)
- Archeoptryx (They will make your ears hurt and you will fuckin love every second of it.)
- Shortchanged (The drunkest pyrates this side o Oakland)
- Are Black (The hardest working band in Santa Rosa, no shit.)
Once again, if you cant be respectful, youll be punched in the face.
THIS IS REALLY, REALLY, IMPORTANT. PLEASE SHOW UP SUNDAY, ITS PERFECTLY TIMED SO YOU CAN SLEEP OFF YOUR NEW YEARS HANGOVER AND STILL CATCH A BUNCHA GREAT BANDS AND SUPPORT A GOOD CAUSE.
THERE IS NO EXCUSE TO MISS THIS.
FOR THE LOVE OF YAHWEH AND MY SANITY, PLEASE REPOST THIS AND SPREAD THE WORD. I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER AND GO TO ALL OF YOUR EVENTS.

Dining Out For Life - Tonight!
Dining Out For Life® is an annual fundraising event involving the generous participation of volunteers, corporate sponsors and restaurants. In exchange for their financial support, restaurants are listed in a city wide marketing campaign in an effort to increase customer traffic.
In 1991 Dining Out For Life® was created by an ActionAIDS volunteer in Philadelphia. In 1993, ActionAIDS made it an international event offering licenses to AIDS Service Organizations around the country.
More than 2,500 restaurants a year donate a portion of their proceeds from this one special night of dining to the licensed agency in their city.</i>
Don't feel like cooking tonight? Eat at a participating restaurant, have a great meal and help a great cause!

looking for a good café
Hey, all, I'm relatively new to the area, and had a question (and this happens to be the largest santa rosa area community on lj)- I'm looking for a good working café around the area. Somewhere with a mellow atmosphere, not too loud, a good tea selection and lovely chocolate beverages, and possibly even with wireless. Coffee Katz in my native Sebastopol is great, but it closes early, and has erratic weekend hours, whereas I often need to work late and through the weekends sometimes in order to grade students papers, write, code, etc.

I have been planning a Katrina Relief concert for about a week now and the community has been great. They have offered to donate everything I've needed until now. Now I need a venue. I have been told that the Cotati Plaza in Cotati, CA would be a great location but I have to ask the city council for permission. I need your help!
Wednesday I will be going in front of the City Council. I could really use some community support. Please support the concert and Katrina Survivors by sending a short email to the Cotati City Council. In case you don't know, I am just one person, planning this. I don't have any savings or extra money so I can't afford the permits and insurance. I'm hoping the city will consider sponsoring the event so I don't have to try to come up with the funds. I need people to put the screws to them.
If you would please call, email or show up at the meeting, I would be so greatful!
If you could please, in your emails or phone calls say something like:
I would love to see this fundraiser at the plaza
I would attend
People in NOLA, Mississippi, etc really need our help
I would be disappointed if it didn't happen
Great for surrounding businesses
Do your part to help Katrina survivors
Wave the fees
Help with insurance costs
